A hat-trick of A's for Bodega Bardos from Tim Atkin MW
The Master of Wine and British opinion leader Tim Atkin has tasted the new vintages of our Ribera del Duero reds and has given us TOP MARKS!
He has awarded 95 points to Bardos Reserva 2016, 93 points to Bardos Suprema 2016 and 92 to Bardos Romántica Crianza 2018, filling us with sheer joy as it is the recognition of the work we are doing in Ribera del Duero and the commitment to high-altitude vineyards in the harshest areas of the DO.
Tim Atkin praises the careful elaboration of the wines and the freshness of the vineyards. The Master of Wine describes Bardos Reserva 2016 (95 points) as a “stylish, finely crafted cuveée with some ferrous grip , layers of bramble and black cherry fruit, scented oak and notes of mint, tangerine and dried herbs.” This wine is elaborated with Tinta del País from vineyards at almost a thousand meters of altitude in Moradillo de Roa (Burgos) and San Esteban de Gormaz (Soria). In the cellar it spends 16 months in new French oak barrels.
In Bardos Suprema 2016 (93 points), Atkin highlights the freshness of both its vineyards, at an altitude of almost a thousand meters in Moradillo de Roa, and the 2016 vintage, which he finds “a fragrant, focused Tinta del País with bramble and raspberry fruit, some cinnamon oak sweetness and vivid supporting acidity". Suprema is made with grapes from the Burgos vineyards and then ages for 30 months in new French oak.
