We're already mid-way through this first week of spring devoted to the guerrilla. So, what do you think of the previous guerrilla fighters? Well, maybe you haven't had time to taste them yet, but if you want to tell us what you expect from this gang, you know, just tell us, don't be afraid!!

The pair we are introducing today… what a pair... the first Albariño made in La Rioja, and a Chardonnay that has us all in awe with its enormous capacity for adaptation.

Albariño and Chardonnay. The guerrilla is backWe are yet again satisfied with the result of the Albariño. Despite the climate conditions and the soil being very different to those in the area this variety is original from - Galicia and the north of Portugal, last year's Albariño received satisfactory comments. The marks it received were also good. With 87 Parker points, this guerrilla fighter ended up amongst the best Albariños scored by Robert Parker.

chardonnay5 110x300 1reCarmelo, the oenologist of Castillo de Maetierra, defines this year's Albariño as a straw yellow colour wine with golden and green tones. On the nose, it is a sound and intense wine with several aromas of white fruit such as melon and pear. It leaves notes of acidic apple and some acidic fruit, and the mineral properties of the soil this variety is grown on are also present. On the palate, it is an explosive wine with a smooth attack, leaving a fresh and alive aftertaste thanks to its acidity and acidic apple notes.

As far as the Chardonnay is concerned, it surprises us every year with its capacity for adaptation to the environment. We are gradually providing it with personality, character, complexity, balance and elegance.

We can describe it as a pale yellow colour wine with golden touches, very elegant, clean and glossy. On the nose, it is a very intense wine with a lot of fresh fruit such as peach, pineapple, melon, some lime, a touch of acidic strawberry and some candy and honey. On the palate, it is a full-bodied wine, unctuous, thick and glyceric, which is compensated with a perfect acidity, making it a structured, balanced and elegant wine.

Well, that's it, enjoy these two guerrilla fighters. There are only two more left, two Germans with Riojan accents. Tomorrow, we will introduce Riesling and Gewürztraminer.
