Top Score for Classica Blanco at the Decanter World Wine Awards 2025
Classica Gran Reserva Blanco 2014 has been awarded a Platinum Medal and 97 points, the highest score given this year at the Decanter World Wine Awards 2025. This accolade adds to the success already achieved by Classica Rosado and Classica Tinto in this prestigious competition.
This is one of the highest distinctions a wine can receive. It is not only a reflection of quality, but also of the competition’s prestige — judged by some of the most respected professionals in the world, governed by extremely rigorous standards, and one of the few that guarantees absolute impartiality by conducting all tastings blind, based solely on the quality of the wine. Here is how the jury described Classica Gran Reserva Blanco 2014:
"Fabulously mature aromas of honeysuckle, baked orange and caramelised apricot ooze over the toasted apple brioche complexity and mesmerising waxy texture. An age defying freshness immerses the palate, ensuring many years ahead. Long and smoky."

In addition to Classica’s outstanding performance, the Hacienda López de Haro range also received excellent scores in this year’s DWWA:
• Hacienda López de Haro Reserva Blanco 2018 – 93 points (Silver Medal)
• Hacienda López de Haro Reserva Tinto 2019 – 92 points (Silver Medal)
Two wines that reaffirm Hacienda López de Haro’s commitment to quality across all its ranges and strengthen the winery’s position in Rioja.
The Highest-Rated Collection from Rioja
Classica is the collection of Gran Reservas from exceptional vintages crafted by Bodega Hacienda López de Haro—an homage to the heritage of Rioja through wines that embody classicism, with long ageing in barrel and bottle. The track record of Hacienda López de Haro’s Gran Reservas is impeccable. Classica Gran Reserva Rosado has earned the exact same score as the Blanco — 97 points — in two consecutive editions of the DWWA. In 2022, the 2009 vintage was named Best in Show, and in 2024, the 2012 vintage received a Platinum Medal. It has also impressed top critics, being named Rosé of the Year by both Elizabeth Gabay MW in her Rosé Report 2024 and Tim Atkin MW in his Rioja Report 2025.
Classica Gran Reserva Tinto 2004 was awarded Best in Show in 2021 with an even higher score of 98 points, making it one of the top-rated red wines of the competition.
Decanter World Wine Awards: The Most Demanding Podium
Now in its 22nd edition, the DWWA has become the world’s largest and most influential wine competition. This year, over 18,000 wines from 57 countries were assessed by an international panel of 248 experts, including 72 Masters of Wine and 22 Master Sommeliers.
With a minimum of 95 points required to earn a Gold or Platinum Medal, the scoring system highlights just how selective and meaningful each award is. Earning a Platinum Medal means entering the elite 1 % of the most outstanding wines in the competition.
