Tim Atkin MW praises the new venture of Bodega Bardos
British Master of Wine, Tim Atkin, recently tasted the new wines from Bodega Bardos for his just-published Ribera del Duero Report 2023, awarding them excellent scores. The village wines, Bardos Moradillo de Roa 2020 and Bardos Villálvaro 2021, each receive a score of 93 points. Bardos Viñedos de Altura 2020, from the Soria region, scores 92 points, a rating also matched by Bardos Suprema 2020 and Bardos Reserva 2018.
Furthermore, Bardos climbs a step in Atkin's winery ranking, now classified as Third Growth, and is described as "an increasingly impressive winery." In the two previous reports, the critic had placed our project among the Fourth Growths.
Atkin's ratings follow the introduction of Bardos' new wines, reflecting a strengthened commitment to the denomination's higher and cooler vineyards, located in both the Burgos region of Moradillo de Roa and the Soria surroundings of San Esteban de Gormaz. His high ratings, coupled with the positive reception from Spanish and international critics, reaffirm our vision of freshness and terroir in the Ribera del Duero Denomination of Origin.
Bardos Moradillo de Roa 2020, 93 POINTS.
"(...) this glossy, rich, concentrated, large barrel-aged cuvée. Fresh, stylish, youthful and fruit driven, it shows very little oak flavour but has plenty of concentration and zip. High-altitude Tinto Fino at its best."
Bardos Villálvaro 2021, 93 POINTS.
"Oregano and rosemary aromas are a prelude to a palate that combines flavours of mint, wet stones, blackberry and Angostura bitters. Structured and built to last."
Bardos Viñedos de Altura 2020, 92 POINTS.
“A well-priced introduction to the delights of Soria, this has classic garrigue and mountain herb aromas, racy redcurrant, plum and wild strawberry fruit and very well-integrated 25% new oak.”
Bardos Suprema 2020, 92 POINTS.
“It's a wine that handles its new French and Eastern European oak confidently, displaying flavours of coffee bean, milk chocolate and dark berry fruits and a top note of iodine. Stylish stuff from an increasingly impressive winery.”
Bardos Romántica, 91 POINTS.
“Romántica is a youthful, scented, pan-Ribera Tinto Fino. Aged in 10% new French and Eastern European oak, it's a juicy, sappy, deftly wooded red with tangy black cherry and bramble fruit and a balsamic undertone.”
