Let's go with the two remaining guerrilla fighters. These two Germans with Riojan accents have surprised us immensely with their great capacity for adaptation, and they are really feeling very very comfortable in this land.
Last year's Riesling was one of the most popular and surprising wines. From Castillo de Maetierra, Carmelo tells us that this grape variety "has surprised us immensely" and confirms that "it seems like they are enjoying the area and the climate of Calahorra". "Although the vineyard is still a bit young, I think it has an incredible potential", says our oenologist at Castillo de Maetierra. As you have seen during the week, he has been following the tracks of this guerrilla family very closely.
The 2010 Riesling is a yellow colour wine with infinite golden shades, providing it an attractive and glossy appearance. On the nose, it is a very intense and complex wine with a palette of aromas covering from mature fruit, such as peach, baked apples and pear (all in a honeyed coating), to balsamic and straw nuances, such as dry hay mixed with certain notes of confectionery. On the palate it is round, glyceric and full-bodied, leaving an explosion of tastes and aromas. We have obtained a long, fine and elegant wine with a perfect balance between acidic and sweet nuances and an incredible complexity both on the nose and the palate.
Gewürztraminer is a German variety with a different aspect and which has been a break-through. While other grapes turn into a greenish colour with golden tones when ripening, this variety turns pink and purple - providing the vineyards with a different shade than the usual green. Together with the Muscat, it is one of the most aromatic varieties in the world thanks to its richness in Terpenes.
Of course, this colour does not transfer to the wine, and what we have achieved this year is a straw yellow colour wine with very attractive green shades. On the nose, it is a very intense wine with a Muscat and tropical fruit - pineapple or mango - bouquet rising from a perfumed Rose bottom note so characteristic of this variety. On the palate, it is a greedy, fresh, easy-drinking and medium sweet wine with a pleasant and long aftertaste.
And with these two guerrilla fighters, we end this week's presentation of the Spanish White Guerrilla 2010. Now it is the time to enjoy them, and. of course, for you to tell us what you think about them, which is what really matters!!
