La Jefa earns 92 points in Wine Enthusiast magazine

Matsu wines continue to impress top critics worldwide, and this time, Matsu's La Jefa 2021 has achieved an excellent score in one of the leading wine publications in the United States: Wine Enthusiast. The magazine’s October issue will feature Mike DeSimone’s Spanish wine buying guide, where their Spanish wine expert awards our La Jefa 92 points.
In his review, Mike DeSimone describes La Jefa as "a pale straw-colored wine has aromas of bergamot and dried Mediterranean herbs. There is a light herbal note on the palate alongside apricot, lemon and jasmine flavors that stroll into a floral-infused finish".
Matsu's La Jefa is a wine with character, flavor, structure, and strength—a white wine crafted for aging, made from the rare Malvasía Castellana grape that dots the predominantly red vineyards of the D.O. Toro.
La Jefa 2021 was hand-harvested in mid-September and artisanally crafted in 600-liter foudres, where it was aged for 14 months. La Jefa naturally expresses the terroir with great complexity. It's rich, glyceric, and perfect for aging, especially in a fresh vintage like 2021.
